Jennifer Johnston

Jennifer Johnston is a senior vice president and director of research, Municipal Bonds, for Franklin Templeton Fixed Income. Ms. Johnston is responsible for leading the group's credit research effort across all municipal bond sectors. She also conducts research for high profile state and local governments.

Ms. Johnston has over three decades of experience in the financial services industry. She joined Franklin Templeton in 1993 as a futures associate. She has held research coverage for a variety of sectors over her tenure with the Municipal Bonds team and has most recently focused on the tax-backed sector with an emphasis on general obligations, leases/COPs and dedicated tax bonds issued by state and local governments and school districts, local governments nationwide, and distressed local governments.

Ms. Johnston holds a bachelor of science in political science from Santa Clara University, and a masters of public administration from University of San Francisco. She is a California Society of Municipal Analysts (CSMA) member, previous board member (2004-2010) and chair (2010). Ms. Johnston is a National Federation of Municipal Analysts (NFMA) member, previous board member (2010-2016) and chair (2015). She is also a previous NFMA Annual Conference chair (2010-2011), and NFMA Strategic Planning chair (2018-2020). Additionally, she is a San Francisco Municipal Bond Club member. She is a Junior League of San Francisco member, previous board member (2006-2013, 2015-2016) and president (2012-2013).

Ms. Johnston was awarded the CSMA's inaugural Amy S. Doppelt Award for Meritorious Service (2011). She was a finalist in 2012 for Franklin Templeton's annual Harmon E Burns Award for community services. She also won the National Federation of Municipal Analysts Meritorious Service Award (2019), and was recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business for 2022.
